Canceling a Hotel Booking

How to submit a cancellation request and what happens next

If your plans change and you need to cancel a confirmed hotel booking, you can submit a cancellation request directly through BoomPop. The process is straightforward, but there are a few important things to know before you start, mainly around your contract terms and what happens after you submit.

This article walks you through the full process from request to confirmed cancellation.


Before you begin

Hotel contracts typically include cancellation clauses that may result in fees or forfeited payments. Review your contract carefully before proceeding. You can access it from the booking page under View Contract.

How to request a cancellation

First, go to Requests and Bookings in the left navigation and click into the property to open the booking detail page. From here you can review your messages with the hotel, your contract, and your proposals.

Then scroll to Booking options and select Request cancellation.

A dialog will appear walking you through three steps:

Step 1: Review what the cancellation process involves, including a reminder to check your contract terms before continuing. Select Continue.

Step 2: Write a message to the hotel with your cancellation request. We recommend expanding Recommended questions to ask, which surfaces helpful prompts like:

  • What do my contract terms require me to pay in terms of cancellation fees, if any?

  • Do I owe any outstanding payments?

  • How will I be issued my refund?

  • Can I rebook for different dates?

  • Can my payments/balance be applied to a future event?

Add your message and select Continue.

Step 3: Type Request to cancel in the confirmation field and select Request cancellation.

Once submitted, your booking status will update to Cancellation requested and your message will be sent to the hotel.


What happens next

The hotel will review your request and confirm the cancellation on their end. Until they do, your booking is still active and all contractual obligations remain in effect.

Once the hotel confirms, you'll receive a notification and your booking status will update to Booking Canceled.
